How To Change Your Life – By Changing How You Think

Sitting here with my foot elevated, (had a fall 3 weeks ago and damaged the tendons and ligaments in my foot), has given me time to think, and write, this is my second blog this week, and I have to say I am really enjoying writing and find it therapeutic. My sincere hope is that you – the reader will gain some useful information for taking the time to read this blog.

Apologies its a bit longer than anticipated but I wanted to keep the information in, i promise it will be worth your time!

We are always either moving towards or away from our dreams.

One thing that I have been thinking an awful lot about is my attitude, to my injury and also to my life in general. I have to reminded myself (we all need constant reminders when we are on a consciousness path) that it’s the actions we take, (or don’t take) every day that are either moving us forwards or away from our dreams and goals in life. We are never standing still, we live in an ocean of motion and if we are not progressing we are going backwards!

Thinking and Mental Activity are not the same thing

Thinking is something I do an awful lot of as a Metaphysical and Spiritual Coach and teacher. I am constantly analysing and observing my own life and behaviour, (and that of my family – which incidentally they hate lol)!
I would guess that for most people, thinking is something they do every day – but is it? There is a vast difference between thinking and mental activity!

One of my mentors once said 2% of people think, 3% of people think they think and 95% would rather die than think!! What percentage do you fall into? I don’t know if those figures are true or not but it is definitely food for thought (pardon the pun)!

In my experience, I have found that most people don’t “think” on a regular basis. I mean really think (not just mental engage in mental activity) about their life, about what they are doing, if they are happy, what they want to achieve in life, if their health is good, if they are working towards their goals, if in fact they have any goals at all!!

The vast majority of people tend to “get buy” as best they can and let life happen to them. They wait for the “weekend” to have a few drinks and relax with friends and Monday morning comes all too soon and it starts all over again!

What about You – Are you settling for Mediocrity?

Don’t get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that if your happy, but what concerns me is that people are letting their lives slip bye, just ambling along, putting up with mediocrity because either they are not aware that they have a choice or they are too afraid to make the change! They think it’s too difficult, they are too old or don’t have the time, or the money or some other limiting belief that the voice of their “doubter” is constantly feeding them, if in fact they think about it at all!

Life is about learning, we are here to learn lessons

I know because I have been in that position myself and when I really started to understand who I was, what made me tick, and what I really wanted, my whole life began to change and I have never been happier, (apart from the fact that I’m housebound at the moment lol) but it took some very deep thought, and doing the necessary work on myself over many many years coupled with all of my Metaphysical and Psychology training to get to where I am now.

I am still and will always be a work in progress. I will never stop learning and growing because the effort I put into my own development pays off a thousand fold in the way I feel every day, happy, peaceful and clam and you cannot put a price on that feeling, its priceless!

Your Personality Creates Your Personal Reality

You may or may not have heard this before but your personality creates your persona reality, yes that really is true, so I will say it again, your personality creates your personal reality, in other words you become what you think about most of the time! That is what Earl Nightingale (one of the first personal development guru’s in the 1950’s) called the strangest secret!! The funny thing is it isn’t secret at all but still I find that so many people are unaware of the power their thoughts have on their life.

Have you heard the expression – wherever you go – there you are? You attract to yourself not what you want, but what you are inside! That sy we change jobs only to find the same or similar problem at the new place, or we meet a new partner and find that a few months down the line, they have the same or very similar annoying habbits and traits of our previous partner, what we don’t realise is that to find true happiness – we must understand and get to know ourselves firs, and then and only then will be be able to really manifest the perfect partner, the perfect job, or whatever it is that we are seeking! The art of manifestation is a complex subject indeed and that is for another blog as right now we are talking about thoughts!

Take a look at your life – it will show you your dominant thoughts

And if you don’t really know what you think about – take a look at your life, your life today is the result of what you have thought about last week, last month, last year etc! If you have the life you want – that’s fantastic and I congratulate you, you are creating the life you want, but if you don’t, then you are still creating your life, but by default and I can tell you that it is definitely possible to change it, (and it doesn’t have to be massive change all at once), you just have to change the way you think!!

Your inner guidance doesn’t shout – it whispers to you

Most people however don’t give themselves the opportunity to think, from the moment they awake, they are surrounded by noise, TV goes on then the radio blaring on the way to work or taking the kids to school, same thing on the way home and then TV’s is on whilst we make dinner and probably stays on till bedtime. No opportunity to be still and to think about important issues like “how do I want my life to be”.

Why do we do this? Why do we never allow ourselves time to sit quietly with our own thoughts, even for five minutes (and everyone can find five minutes in their day). My guess is that most people don’t want to hear what the voice in their head or their inner guidance is telling them which is exactly the reason they fill the day with noise and distractions.

Our inner guidance system, (and we all have one) our unconscious mind has such valuable information for us, but it doesn’t shout, it whispers to us and unless we are quiet we don’t hear it!

“We come this way but once, we can either tip toe through life and get to death without being too badly bruised, or we can set our intention to live a full and meaningful life and do whatever it takes to fulfill that ambition.
Have you Discovered your Passion”?

Whatever that is for you – It may be to be the best possible wife and mother, or it may be to be the best teacher or to be the best nurse or doctor or whatever your chosen profession is, bottom line is that you are doing something that you are passionate about, you are fulfilling your purpose and I can tell you from experience that when you have found that one thing, that lights you up inside, there is no better feeling!

I think it was Bob Proctor that said “Change is inevitable but person growth is a choice”.

Are you ready to make that choice?

As we enter the final few weeks of this year, it’s a really good time for self reflection, to start to ask yourself a few big questions, like “am I happy”? “Am I enjoying my life, “do I enjoy my job”? “Do I feel fulfilled”? “Am I happy in my relationship”? These are big questions that most people don’t ask themselves.
In an article by Bronnie Ware, a nurse who had worked in a hospice for most of her life, she talks about the No 1 regret of the dying which was – quote;

“I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me”.

This was the most common regret of all. When people realise that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honoured even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made.

I wish I had let myself be happier

Many did not realise until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called ‘comfort’ of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to their selves, that they were content. When you are on your deathbed, what others think of you is a long way from your mind. How wonderful to be able to let go and smile again, long before you are dying.

Life is a choice. It is YOUR life. Choose consciously, choose wisely, and choose honestly. Choose happiness, because you deserve it!

The above is not meant to depress you, but to impress upon you the importance of living your life consciously and on your terms.

So the message here that I would like to give you is this:

• Start to become aware of your thoughts and actions on a daily basis
• Don’t allow your life to run on autopilot any longer
• Take some time out to assess your life and if you are Not happy with the result make some changes
• Learn to differentiate between your inner critic and your true guidance system – tip your inner critic will never tell you anything positive, it is the voice of your doubter!

Some constructive habits to install:
– Adopt a Positive Attitude
– Be curious
– Take responsibility
– Hang out with positive people
– Think impossible thoughts
– Believe in yourself

Some negative traits to watch out for:
– Playing the victim
– Blaming others
– Having Limiting beliefs
– Being Defensive
– Chronic self-doubt
– Perfectionism

Yes most definitely perfectionism is a barrier to a happy and successful life as it’s impossible to achieve, causes frustration and overwhelm and will cause you give up! Aim for excellence instead of perfection every time!!
Change is the only certainty in life; things will change for you, but if you want them to change for the better and start living the life you want to live you have to take action. We must learn to control our thinking; and learn to push past our fears and limitations (which are mostly of our own making).

If you would like to make the coming year the year YOU finally start living the life you want to live, then you have to change the way you think, that is not so easy to do, there is no overnight fix, it takes work but……………this time next year, you could be approaching Christmas as a different person, a stronger, more confident woman who knows what she wants and was brave enough to take the steps necessary to get it. And I can promise you this, this time next year, you will wish you had started now!

I do hope that you decide to take some action; your life is far too precious to waste another minute of it being unhappy.
